After watching a Dr. Boz video, I committed to extended fasting once a week—specifically 72 hours, since I’d done them before and loved the benefits.
I started Sunday at 5:30 pm, aiming to eat again on Wednesday at 5:30 pm. Instead, I broke at just over 50 hours.
It could feel like failure—but I’m not framing it that way.
Those 50 hours still delivered: lower glucose, higher ketones, real accomplishment.
I relearned what I’d forgotten: Day 1 is easy(ish), Day 2 is brutal. Alone, without strong mental prep, food thoughts hit hard and repeatedly. Hunger came in intense waves, not constant.
I ended with two burger patties, three bacon strips, and sour cream dip—each bite was pure bliss.
I know I missed Day 3’s famous euphoria (very common in longer fasts). Next week: another 72-hour water fast attempt. As Dr. Mindy Pelz says, “No fast is a failure.” If I tap out early again, I’ll adjust my approach.
